Absolute Archaeology offers a comprehensive, detailed and rapid desk-based assessment service. Our research skills enable us to critically evaluate existing records quickly and thoroughly, working to tight timescales and to the highest professional standards.
The information will be used to determine the local, regional, national and international significance of the proposed area for development. This enables our client to be aware of the impact of their project upon the historic environment and to identify issues that may affect the planning process.

This process involves a detailed examination of historical, cartographic, aerial photographic and pictorial records, previous archaeological projects and published and unpublished literature.
Desk based assessments inform the planning process by providing all relevant parties (e.g. the client, curator and planning department) with the appropriate information on the archaeological potential of a site and, importantly, the prospective impact of the development upon this resource.
